Smart textiles
Protegi Italia looks to the future of technical apparel as a frontier where textile becomes operational intelligence.
Smart textiles—fabrics that can understand stimuli and inputs from the environment—blend chemistry, informatics, engineering, and nanotechnology to deliver scalable, reliable, and forward-looking solutions. Our products fuse biology and technology to create fabrics capable of monitoring vital parameters, adapting to external conditions, releasing targeted substances, and changing color in response to contact—opening new avenues for health, safety, and performance.
Fields of application and collaborations
We have been collaborating for years with Europe’s leading universities and research centers to develop smart textiles across key sectors:
- Medicine: fabrics able to monitor vital parameters, regulate body temperature, manage substance release, and respond to contact with color changes, collecting data to enable new therapies and advanced diagnostics.
- Aerospace: more than twenty years of experience in partnership with leaders like Thales Alenia Space and ASI, with fabrics resistant to extreme conditions, lightweight and durable, capable of monitoring parameters in microgravity and supporting ISS domotics.
- Sports and well-being: sportswear with integrated sensors and AI, capable of monitoring biometric data and providing actionable signals to enhance performance.
- Workplace safety: fabrics designed to withstand extremely high temperatures, with wearable antennas to improve signal quality and reduce radiation exposure.
Saint Textile: saving lives with smart textiles
Saint Textile is a project dedicated to saving lives by developing smart textiles that enhance visibility in low light and maritime contexts. At Expo 2025 Osaka, in the Italy Pavilion, we presented a special patch that can be applied to life vests: the patch keeps the vest afloat and visible to infrared thermal cameras and night-vision devices. A concrete tool to accelerate search and rescue operations, especially at night and in cold water, where time is critical to locate missing persons.
At Proteggi Italia, innovation meets responsibility: textiles that protect, inform, and save.
